The Silent Victim: How Should the Law Safeguard the Rights of Animals

In recent years, animal rights are getting more attention from the public. The public, however, puts their emphasis on pets while the rights of wild and stray animals are neglected.

Disheartening news of stray cats and dogs being poisoned shows the stark fact that the current regulation on animal abuse is inadequate.

Wild animals like boars are being hunted in the name of protecting residential areas as well. Laws regarding animal rights have to be improved in order to strike a balance between animals’ rights to live and the safety of citizens.

Kim J. McCoy, current barrister-at-law and the founder of the Hong Kong Animal Law and Protection Organisation (HKALPO) to shared his thoughts on the topics.

Hysan Industrial (Hysan) has been building sustainable communities by promoting healthy lifestyles. Hysan also realizes that pets play an important role in many families in Hong Kong, so it took the lead in cooperating with Leaders Charity Foundation (FIF) and leaders in the pet industry to present FURRYTALES, in order to create a more caring and inclusive community together. Hysan's Lee Gardens and FIF hope to promote the harmony between humans and animals by hosting FURRYTALES, and provide a platform for pet leaders to interact with the public to further enhance public awareness of pet well-being. This Christmas, FURRYTALES' pet-friendly activities will be held in three locations in Lee Gardens to celebrate the festive season with you.
